The most important part of any student union's organisation is, naturally, its members.
The most visible part, when you enter our office, are the members of the Executive Board and the Secretariat, who run the Student Union's operations. All of us, except office secretary Laura, are also students at the university.
The Executive and the Representative board are assisted by the Secretariat. Secretaries are responsible for practical matters regarding their respective sectors. They take care of the day-to-day routines. At the moment, the Student Union employs a Secretary General and secretaries for International, Academic, Social Welfare and Cultural Affairs as well as a secretary of comminications and a chief editor, who edits the student newspaper Aalef.
The Representative Board has the highest authority in Student Union's decision making, very much like the parliament. The board makes the biggest decisions in the Student Union and gives directives for the executive board. The Representative Board is elected every second year. It consists of 31 representatives. All the members may apply, but the operative language of the representative board is Finnish.
The Student Union has commissions, divisions, and a variety of clubs and committees. It also owns Aalef Ltd and partly the Student Union building.
