If you are studying in our university as an undergraduate student for at least three months, you are required to join the Student Union. The membership fee is 53 euros for one semester, and 106e per academic year.
As a member of a Student Union, you can apply for a Lyyra Card that costs 17 euros. The Lyyra Card entitles its holder to have lunch at a reduced price in all student canteens in Finland. Students can also get free medical treatment from National Student Healthcare Service in all the Universities in Finland, and other discounts at various shops and services.
Actions towards improving the students' position both at the local and the national level are one of the most important services provided by the Student Union. It also offers all kinds of free time activities for its members. The main objective of all the activities is fostering and improving the commmon spirit and the culture, that have been created by the Carelian business and engineering students.
Although the student union seeks to promote the welfare of its members, it also has a business function. In addition to provide cost-free services for the students it gives financial and administrative support for over 30 clubs and societies covering a wide spectrum of recreational, cultural, political and religious activities. The student union also owns the company Aalef that runs, for example, the bookstore and the restaurant in the Student Union buildings.
Student Union activities are open to all the students in our university and personal initiative is a greatly valued characteristic. Especially since international activities are not yet an everyday part of all the club's activities. They can be, with a little help from you!
