GENERAL HEALTH CARE
If you have a serious emergency, you can see a doctor without an appointment, but please check with the reception first. In other cases you should first go to see the nurse and she will send you to a doctor if needed. You can usually have an appointment with a nurse right away. YTHS nurses have consulting hours in the morning between 8 am – 12 am. After that you can also see a nurse, but you have to make a reservation. If you are really sick you can see a nurse as soon as possible during the YTHS opening hours.
All undergraduate students with urgent problems are treated right away.
YTHS provides mental health counseling, psychotherapy and psychiatrial treatment. Students can make a reservation for counseling and there psychologist can estimate whether more treatment is needed. Psychologist can be reached on Mondays and Wednesdays between 12am – 13am from number 046 710 6803. First mental health counseling period (1-5 first sessions) is given free of charge.
Vaccines against tetanus, diphtheria and polio are free of charge. With other vaccines, the doctor will give a prescription and student will get the vaccine from a pharmacy themselves. Then the vaccination will be done in YTHS. You should always contact YTHS if you need some vaccination or need to consult a doctor about a vaccination.

Are you a new student?
- Remember to fill in the electronic health inquiry!
The FSHS invites all first-year students to health examination. This examination consists of an electronic health inquiry and, if necessary, a personal health discussion. We send all new students an invitation to fill in the health inquiry.
The inquiry covers issues related to general and oral health and factors affecting these. Your responses are assessed by a public health nurse and an oral hygienist. They will send you a reply message containing a personal assessment of your general and oral health. If necessary, you will be asked to make an appointment with a public health nurse and/or for an oral health examination/treatment.
If you do not receive an email invitation to fill in the health inquiry during your first year of study, please contact a public health nurse at your FSHS health centre. Invitations are sent throughout the study year so you may not receive yours until the spring term.
The information you submit in the electronic health inquiry cannot be seen by outsiders as the connection is strongly encrypted. The information obtained in the health inquiry is only accessible by FSHS healthcare staff in their patient care duties.
The aim of the health examination procedure is to ensure
- that as many students as possible fill in the health inquiry
- that personal health discussions are attended especially by those with health problems
